Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions in regards to oral hygiene.

When is the best time to floss?

 

Nightly before bed. This is important due to the slowing down of saliva production during sleep. You can either floss before or after brushing-that is personal preferance.

How should i store/care for my toothbrush?

 

Whether you use an electric or traditional toothbrush, this is the same for both. You should replace your brush/brush head every three months. Also change it out if you have been ill. When storing your brush after use; rinse with tap water, shake out excess and store upright in an area where in can air-dry.

At what age should i take my child to the dentist?

 

The rule of thumb to rember is "first tooth, first dental visit." While it may not be an extensive visit, the dentist will do a visual exam and help acclimate the child to the routiene for future visits.

How long after a fluoride treatment can i eat or drink?

 

If you had an in office treatment and it was varnish (painted on) you can eat or drink right away. You do need to avoid any crunchy, sticky, or hot foods for 4 hours and any alcohol containing products. If it was in trays, then avoid food and drink for 30 minutes.

If you are using prescription fluoride at home, do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after use.

How often should i have a teeth cleaning?

 

This is different for every patient on a case by case basis. However, everyone should go at least once every 6 months or twice per year.
